Date: 06.03.2020 (10.00-17.00)
Location:  Wuppertal Institute (Berlin Office)

There is substantial potential to improve urban access, air quality, safety and the quality of life in cities along with reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions if an integrated policy approach is applied that combines all intervention areas for urban policy and involves all levels of government.

The Urban Change Maker programme consists of a wide-raging capacity building programme directed towards decision makers and advisors in local and national authorities and private sector actors. At the core of this programme works a group of professionals who are combining implementation-oriented work with academic studies at different levels. This Urban Change Maker Group facilitates active exchange on innovative, replicable and scalable solutions that can make a positive contribution to urban transformation processes.

The Urban Change Maker Group tackles these issues through a development of a research group to further analyse linkages and highlight the role of different policy and governance approaches in stimulating low-carbon urban development solutions. This analysis builds on transport and urban development research, but takes a transdisciplinary perspective. The joint research takes into account the Multi-Level-Perspective on sustainability transitions and aims to highlight the potential for a consensus-oriented policy approach that builds on co-benefits among key policy objectives and coalitions among key political actors. Researchers will focus on sustainability transitions at the local level, working with partner cities and academic institutions. This builds on the Urban Electric Mobility Initiative, Urban Pathways, SOLUTIONSplus[1] and aims support local authorities to identify and implement innovative solutions in the area sustainable urban mobility and integrated planning.

This workshop focused on the academic aspects of the Urban Change Maker programme and discussed main goals, methodologies, thematic areas of interest and potential case studies to be included into the individual research in the context of Masters, PhD and PostDoc theses.
